Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! My name is Ms. Victoria Olsen and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher/case manager this year. As you know, all teacher-led instruction/student interaction will be held virtually (for now), with a blend of both synchronous (direct instruction) and asynchronous (independent work) online learning. Although this model is expected to bring forth many challenges, please know that I am here for your family and child every step of the way! My support staff and I are dedicated to creating a fun-filled, collaborative, yet rigorous learning environment, where your child will feel safe, cared for, and supported. I know that all these online modalities can be a bit daunting at times, but we will get through these challenging times together. Your child should have received a Distance Learning packet. Inside their folder is two weeks worth of social skills lessons, spelling and math activities, independent level readers, and independent work activities. New packets will be distributed every other Friday *See Schedule below*. On Friday’s distribution day, please return your child’s packet, completed work, and leveled readers for me to review and grade. Do not return their Eureka workbook/WonderWorks Interactive Textbooks. At packet drop off, please collect your child’s new packet. Each packet is individualized, so please double check your child’s name on their folder. This process will look similar to the first week of school. Packet Distribution Schedule Sep 11: 8:00-4:00pm Sep 25: 8:00-4:00pm Oct 9: 8:00-4:00pm Oct 23: 8:00-4:00pm Nov 6: 8:00-4:00pm
Parent and Student Onboarding On the first day of school (Friday, 8/28), I will be zooming with students from 8:10-11:50am. After lunch (12:30-1:30), I welcome all parents to join me on Zoom for an opportunity to meet their teacher(s) virtually, review expectations, get familiar/enrolled with Google Classroom, and review how to use their student Gmail accounts. I will also take some time for questions and answers on classroom instruction and technology.
